It has been known since Christ was a child that a man’s best friend is his dog. I doubt there are many that would argue the merit of a pet as a companion. It has been proven that in fact having a pet enables you to live longer.
Why then, are the by-laws in West Vancouver’s condominiums so averse to allowing pets?
I have spoken to so many people that are contemplating a move from the large house and would love to move to a more simple way of living – an apartment. However, as one lady put it “I would rather get rid of my husband than my little dog” she said......and the husband concurred with “It’s true, she would”
Most of the buildings in West Vancouver allow teenagers, in my opinion they can do way more damage than a cute wee dog or god forbid a cat that never gets to smell the great outdoors. Please do not misunderstand, I am not saying that teenagers should be restricted either!
Many of the condo owners will argue that dogs may bark or create a mess on their way to their daily walk. There are very few dogs that are incontinent, generally they are well trained, totally loved and a great addition to a family. If a dog or cat is a problem, you fine the owner, second complaint the fine is larger, third complaint, they are out.
I have been following 6 buildings in North Vancouver. Over the last twelve months there has not been one complaint against a pet or his owner. In those same buildings however, there have been many complaints about people’s music and the dropping of cigarette butts on the balcony below them.
Come on West Vancouver, get on board. Lighten up, live longer
